high idle speed

I just bought a new exhaust system for my 2005 road star. On the 13TH,some of us went to J&J's for the 404 meeting. The bike seemed fine. riding back, my idle speed became high and it would'nt idle back down to normal. Does anyone got an idea why it would start to do this? :( :angry:

I am no smart man when it comes to this stuff, but isn't there an O2 sensor that needs to be wired into an exhaust system?  Maybe the problem is somewhere in there.??

Sounds to me like you may have an exhaust leak.  Check the torque on the head bolts to make sure they are to spec.  If you stick your hand down there you may be able to feel it.  Sometimes the gaskets don't seal properly until they've been heated up a couple of times.

I believe the "O2 sensor" idea is moot, since Dave's bike is carberation, not fuel injected.

Wednesday I will check the bike out. have'nt had time to look at it yet,but I was told because of the year and carb, I don't need anything like O2 or new jets. It did run fine until the trip back. I will check the exhaust and a couple of other things, and then i will post a note. So if theres any other suggestions, let me know. thanks

Dave check to make sure there is no pinch or kink in your throttle line from twist grip to carb and that when you release the throttle the carb linkage returns to the stop point, Also as Papa said check the bolts that lock in your pipes to the cyls. you could have also wedged the throttle lines when you put the tank back on after painting.

OK, I worked on my bike tonight and i pulled the air cleaner off. 2 things i noticed, 1 of the vacum line that connected to the filter itself was very loose. so i fixed that. the other thing was that the filter was just horrible. Damn near black, so i bought a new one at centry power and replaced it. Ran the bike alittle and it is idling down the way it should be. I think only a good ride will tell me if i did someting right. Thanks for the advice ya'll.
