Motorcycle having charging issues
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:36:14 AM »
Can anyone help?  I'd really like to be riding this weekend.
Bike broke down last Saturday.  It killed at a light.  I tried 3 times to re-start and the battery went dead.  I thought it was gas related but turns out it wasn't.  Re-charged the battery at the Holiday gas station, and the first time it started, but I forgot to unlock the forks (that's the kind of day I had Saturday) so I had to shut it off, unlock the forks and then try to re-start.  It wouldn't start.  Re-charged again, and it wouldn't start.  Had it towed after 4 hours of frustration.  Earlier in the day (about 4 hours of riding on the new battery) I installed a brand new battery from Batteries Plus.  I have ran several tests to test the stator and it appears it is not the stator.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jane

If the stator tests out fine then the next thing to check in the voltage regulator.

Start the bike and measure the voltage across the battery.  It should be somewhere around 14 volts (varies a bit depending on the bike).

Good luck sorting it out.
