There was a discussion at
today's event about checking tire pressure and I mentioned what I've been using for two years now (this month - it was a birthday present!). Here is the
Amazon link to what I have and also to
this one for a handlebar mounted system. Bear has the same system.
I had always known that I should be checking my tire pressure more often than I did (especially on trips) but it was such a pain (mostly with the saddlebags) to get the stem lined up. Get on the ground to check, back on the bike to roll it forward, check again, nope - roll it forward ... #$@& now the air hose doesn't reach now that I've rolled it out into the street!
Now I check pressure
at least at
every gas fill. You can set limits on low and high pressure as well as high temperature. When the limit is reached, the keyfob lights up, vibrates, and beeps.
A couple things ... Firstly, at my initial research there were recommendations to avoid putting these sensors on standard rubber valve stems due to the (small) extra weight and the possibility of stress wear. I had chrome valve stems (~$15 x2) installed at my next tire change for this reason. Secondly, you'll need to realize that to save battery power of the "button" batteries in the senders, they only transmit pressure and temp when there is a change. So in the morning at the start of a ride, turning on the monitor will show an hours-old (days-old?) reading. Driving even a block or two will cause the reading to update.
