There are lots of
TOTUS pictures here with related links. The dedication of these guards is very impressive - in favorable weather! In harsh or extreme weather conditions it is even more admirable. We've been to Arlington and watched these guards - quite impressive! (Thankfully, it was a nice weather day for our visit to DC.)
Thanks to Pat and Duane for passing this on! Unfortunately, someone further up the news channel took it upon themselves to make the image more dramatic by "adjusting the facts" and releasing their spin of the story (with a different date). This picture and what these soldiers dedicate themselves to are impressive enough without adjusting the facts. (I am
not talking about either Pat or Duane here; someone else mashed this up.) </soapbox> {
News story here}
Kathy and I were in Boston from the Saturday before Sandy (on
meeting day) until the Tuesday after landfall. We were very lucky. Boston got some rain most of Sunday and Monday but
very gusty high winds. We were able to walk around Saturday afternoon through Sunday, but only a bit on Monday morning.
No one was going
anywhere Monday afternoon into evening! Oddly, Tuesday was very warm and nice with only a little drizzle. We stayed along the harbor and were able to walk through Boston Common and along the Freedom Trail. Actually a nice three and a half day visit ...
you know, except for the hurricane!
Monday the airport was closed; plenty of people we talked to were stranded when their flights were cancelled. Our hotel filled up with last minute stranded travelers. Our scheduled flight on Tuesday evening took off on time without incident. Like I said, we feel very lucky - especially when we see the news coverage even now over a week later!
