48 States - One Motorcycle Trip
« on: August 22, 2014, 07:27:41 AM »
I was driving back from Mason City yesterday and had a pondering about a long motorcycle trip that touches all lower 48 states on one trip.  There had to be other people as crazy as me so I Googled it.  Here is one trip map I found, but many folks have done it.  I think this is on my bucket list, but it would be done on scenic roads, not freeways.  Feels like about 2 months on a bike.  Who's ready????

Oops, I can't figure out how to insert the image or file.  Alan, can you coach me?

First step, Chappy, is to open the Additional Options section when writing the forum message.  That shows the Attach option for anything you need to ... um ... attach.  :P

If you reply with the link(s) you found, I can give you more specific coaching.  :)

I knew I had read something like this recently so I skipped past the Goggle step ;) and scanned my past issues of Minnesota Motorcycle Monthly.  I found this article in the Winter 2013 issue (#153 from last December).  It sounds like the kind of trip you're not interested in and I don't blame you.  Your two month adventure sounds more interesting than their 10 day grind (these guys were doing an Iron Butt 48-10  - the lower 48 in under 10 days).

Click for the article

(Say Bear or Rich, can you make out what kinda bikes those rascals were riding?)

Maybe one of the more relevant items from the article is the route map they used from a fellow rider.  It would be nice to see that route to use as an initial plan and find more scenic roads from there.

Tell ya what - you route the first six states, I'll do the next six, and we'll go from there.

Got it. . . Here are a couple of photos of routes.  One is the shortest across the county, the other is a loop route the goes through Minneapolis.

Here's a link with a few maps and a note on the guy who did the ride in 6 days. . .

Ya all are crazy ;D

I'd be hard pressed to defend that position, normally. :)    But just curious if you mean those that cover this mileage in 6-10 days, or if "ya all" means "us all" here who are talking about a couple months of nice riding. ;D

I could see doing it, but not as fast as those guys did it.
