The starting point for the run to Galena. . .

I wanted easy access to the freeway and onto 35E south so we could stay grouped.  There is an Exxon station on the southeast corner of Lexington and 694.  We can meet there.  If there is too much car congestion, there is a Target parking lot just on the south side of the cross street.  Look for us there if we're not at Exxon.  We'll meet at 1:00pm with kickstands up at 1:30pm sharp.  If you're running a few minutes late, call my cell phone and we'll wait for you (651-280-8915).

Leaving this early, the stopping place for dinner may be a challenge.  There aren't any fast food places south of Rochester.  If we want to make Galena before it gets real dark, we may have to wing it with something less than wonderful at one of our stops.

Mark. . . did you want us to catch you on the way south along Hwy 52?  Let me know where it would be convenient and we'll pick you up.

Sorry you're not coming along Jimbo. . . maybe next time.  If there are any last minute folks that want to come, it looks like we'll have a room available.  Give me a call and let me know you're coming.

Just mapquest directions.  I was going straight down Hwy 52 into Dubuque, then Hwy 20 to Elizabeth.  The hotel is right where Hwy 84 goes south off of Hwy 20.

If you end up on Hwy 52 in Iowa headed toward Dubuque, when you pass through Guttenberg, right around Millville, you cross over the Turkey River.  Watch for County Road C9Y on your left.  It is a great motorcycle road that has a big scenic overlook in Balltown.  You'll love it.

The big group may not get to make that run due to time.  I wish I could leave earlier in the day, but I don't have the vacation day available.  I just have some "personal business" to take care of that afternoon, so I'm off at noon.  Enjoy your ride.

Chappy

When you get to the hotel, just park in front of your room.  Andy will be expecting you.  As a landmark on Hwy 20, there is a large ranger tower on the left.  The hotel is just a little ways ahead and will surpirise you on the left when you come around a big curve and break out into a clear view of the valley.

OK, it looks like 4 waves of travelers headed down to Galena.  Leaving with me and Debbie are our friend Ralph, Tom and Anne (??), Alan and Kathy, Bruce T. and Ted A. from St. Cloud, 8 bikes.  Should be an easy group to travel.  If we all get to the start point early, we'll leave early.

Everyone ride safe and we'll meet you down there.  Remember to bring your party attitude.  The evenings should be fun.

One week to go. . .  ;D ;D ;D

I spoke to Charlie's place today regarding the catered meal at the motel on Saturday night.  If we went with both chicken and ribs, his price went up to $16 per person (ribs are expensive).  If we just have chicken (both baked and barbeque) with a couple of pizzas, it's $12 per person.  The side dishes will be a macaroni salad, and french fries, and I'll stop and get a couple of packages of cole slaw.  I thought the important thing is just having fun together that night, so I went with the lower priced meal to help manage the cost of the trip.  Remember the alcohol and other beverages are our responsibility.  I assume we should all plan a tip as well.

Thanks for the heads up Tom.  My group will be 6 bikes.  See you all around 7:30 - 8:00.  Andy will have a couple of cases of beer on ice for Friday night.  The gas station across the street sells beer, wine, and liquor.

For those riders going   down in the Bear pack Friday morning that Tom Ann and Cindy we will be meeting at the Grandma's bakery in White Bear lake on 4th st at 9:30 for coffee pastry and trip planning.

I plan to leave from there head down 96 to Stillwater and cross the bride into WI then take hwy 35 down along the river most of the way. This should be a little longer than going down 52 but a nicer drive. We will make several stops along the way.

Thanks Bob I thought Jimbo had my jacket. I do not have to get it back right away if you would bring it to the next meeting or ride that would be great.
