4th of July Parkway Cruise
« on: June 06, 2012, 11:09:23 AM »
ATTENTION - It's now official - The ride meets at 9:30, kickstands up at 10:00 - due to the high heat index.

Time:  Meet at 9:30, Kickstands up at 10:00pm.
Location:  Scenic overlook on Ridgeway Parkway - Take 35W toward downtown Minneapolis (from the north) and exit on Industrial Blvd.  Turn right (north) and make a quick left on Rideway Parkway.  There is a scenic overlook at the top of the hill on the left.  There is a Holiday gas station just south of 35W on Industrial for anyone who needs to gas up or use the restroom.

The ride will only be 2 - 2 1/2 hours.  I may add that loop around Lake of the Isles again.  The first rest stop will be an SA station about an hour into the ride.  We will end in Dinky Town on the U of M campus.  Those who want to can join us at Annies for malts and fries or ?  There is a large parking lot for us to use.  Annies will comp us one hour of parking.  Take your parking ticket with you and have it validated.

Chappy

For those that have not been on this ride, it's a 25-30 mph cruise on the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway in Minneapolis.

Looks like a great ride but the 4th of July is a designated family holiday.  I won't be able to make it.  Have fun and ride safe!

Jimbo - I tried to link this to the calendar, but I don't think it worked.  In the absence of our webmaster, can you link this?

FYI: It is still not listed on the All Chapters' Events.

I will try to make this ride. I remember when I lived in the Cities that the roads in the Metro were deserted on major holidays (they are all up here and out-state then). It would be the perfect time to do a Metro ride!

Ted,

This would be on the Combined Calendar that I think all chapters have access to.  It's not listed on any all chapter ride category.

OK. . . the weatherman says it's going to be near the mid 90's on Wednesday with a heat index over 100.  Would anyone be interested in meeting at 9:30 with kickstands up at 10:00 to beat the heat?  We would get to Annie's in Dinky Town around 12:30 for lunch.  Let me know and I'll switch it officially. . .

That would be better I was going to skip it if we were riding in the heat of the day.

Debbie and I did a little parkway pre-ride today.  Before lunch, it wasn't too bad.  After lunch, if you got stopped at a light out in the sun, it was too hot.  If we leave by 10:00 we can have lunch at about 12:30.  See you all there.

Chappy

PS:  To those who do not see this last minute change - I appologize if you show up for the ride and we're not there.

Got the message, Chappy, I'll be there at 9:30am sharp.

Hey, Bear, if the heat bothers you, what will you do on the ride to Reno?   ;D  ;D ;D
