I would LOVE nothing more, than to be on THIS ride. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I'll be working. Doug will be up north baiting bears. Good thing "Our" Bear will be at the Victory gathering.

I'll see everyone at the meeting.

Will Doug be using picinic baskets for bait? I hear they work very well.

What is the rider level of this ride?  Is it a difficult ride with lots of tight twisties and corners on farm roads?

Jane,

The most difficult part of the ride is the time.  If you have not done an all day ride before, you will be tired at the end of the ride.  It is an all day ride with a variety of riding environments.  There will be main highways, small town streets, and some nice winding farm roads.  The riding pace is usually very comfortable with the slowest riding at the very front of the group right behind the road captain.  Again, for new riders, the important issue is to keep the gap closed with the rider in front of you so we can keep our group safely together.

If I am able to bring my "Dog" and get off of work that day, I will be the person right behind the leader, cause I am slow on my "Dog".   ;D

I encourage all members that can make it to take this ride with Chappy as road captain.  This is a day long ride, but it is a fun one and the view from Hanson's is spectacular.  The weather looks to be very good for Saturday too.  Ad that to great friends, sun, food (at Hanson's) and of course our bikes and you have a very great way to spend a Saturday away from all of the week longs hassles and pressures.

I'll be right behind you Pat since I'll be riding a different bike that I'm not really used to riding.   ;)

I'll meet you all at the Point.

What happened to your bike?

BTW, the "Dog" is back in our home.  Finished and running great.  Must learn how to ride it all over though, differant handle bars, differant seat, differant clutch, differant speedo, differant kickstand.  Plus, it has been quite some time since I rode it.

Jane: First time I did this ride, I was on my 650 VStar & had less than 2 months riding experience. We had a stop just prior to the more "curvy" road, which allowed the more agressive riders to go ahead of us slower ones. I made it without an issue. It was a beautiful ride. I'd recommend it!!

Nothing happened to my bike Pat.

My son finally talked me into trying his bike out so I'll be riding it over the weekend.

Hey Cliff,

Maybe you should drag a trailer and still be our tailgunner.  That way you could pick up the bikes that fall out of the ride.   ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;)
Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Hope you can make it and feel free to meet us and follow just for fun.

Special shout out to Alan.  Thanks for joining me on the pre-ride today.  It's a good thing we rode and found out how many of the roads are under construction in the area around Nelson and Alma.  On the third try we found a route that will be safe for everyone.  The modified route is linked below.  It was cool today and will also be cool for much of the ride on Saturday.  We are all used to the excess heat this summer.  I have the following suggestions:

  • Add an extra layer to your clothes, you can take the layers off as the day warms up.
  • If you have chaps, wear them.  They add some safety to the ride and you won't be too warm.

When we get to Hansen's Holdup and if you plan to order off the menu, go quickly into the main building to the end of the bar and place your order.  It takes a while to get special order food.  There are usually many groups that arrive there around lunch time.  Many of us will go to the deck and eat out of the deck shack.  They have hot dogs, bratwurst, and sloppy joes ready to eat.

Make sure you are gassed up at Century Power or at the Holiday Station at "The Point" just before we leave.  The first rest stop will be in Pepin, then a gas stop in Fountain City.  The ride up Highway 95 to Hansen's Holdup will be broken up to allow a little more aggressive ride for the experienced riders out first.  Please keep safe and don't ride like you own an organ donor bike.  There will be some turns with loose gravel on them.  Use your head but enjoy the ride.

Looking forward to the ride,
Chappy

Looking forward to this ride, I managed to weasel my way for a Saturday off.  Imagine that!  ;D

I will probably be one of the slowest riders in the curves.  I am bringing my "Dog" and he is harder to corner than a normal type bike.  I will need every gas stop I can get my hands on, cause I am now carberation instead of fuel injection and it will eat a little more gas than it used to.  Even worse than the Raider.   ;)

I hope there is a big turnout for this ride.  The weather looks perfect.  Thanks Chappy for setting this all up.

See you Saturday at the "Point".   8)
