More Rides ? ? ?
« on: August 23, 2012, 03:23:20 PM »
Hey. . . is anyone out there going to lead a ride?   ???  I've led 5 rides in the last 7 weeks (two weeks for STAR days shouldn't count, though.   ;) ;)).  I would like to drop back in the pack and enjoy a ride this year.  Post something. . .  ;D ;D

If the weather and circumstances allow, I can lead a one way ::) ride to Iowa after the meeting Saturday.  The return trip will be nine days later on the Monday of Labor Day.  In between, we're driving to Lake of the Ozarks for a week with extended family at my sister's cabin on the lake.

For those not riding to the Tipp of the Mitt or the Midwest StarBQ, and if nothing else gets planned in the meantime, I can lead a ride on Saturday the 8th.  (If we didn't have unbreakable plans that Sunday, I expect we'd be either heading for Michigan or doing some StarBQ research in Branson. ;))

There is an outside chance that I'll be riding back down to Missouri for the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest the following weekend, but we'll have to see about that ...

Seems like we have more followers than leaders in the group.  Could be a problem in the future?  I checked the combined calendar and none of the other local chapters seem to be riding thie weekend either.

To those that complain about no rides... step up to the plate and lead one.  Doesn't matter if you get lost or it is a short ride.  Like the ad says "just do it".   ;D

Even a visit to a historical site would be something.   ;)

I think the problem is not that people are not willing to be the lead bike but that our road captins have taken us on such great roads that we don't feel we could pick near as good a ride.

If some of the road captins would be willing to help new leaders with routes that they have used in the past to get the new leaders started we may have more people step up.

Once someone has lead a ride or two they could pick their own routes. It would be a training program.

It is not that we don't want to lead a ride but that we want everyone to have a good time on the ride and those great side roads that you find are what makes the rides so fun.

I may just be speaking for myself.

OK .................. after some encouragement from Pat (maybe it was goading) I'll be leading a ride to Sal's Angus Grill in Withrow for lunch after the meeting.  All are welcome to join me.  I am trying to work out a route for a short ride afterwards but let me warn you we'll get lost.

Great...  see how easy that was?   8)

Short ride, long ride, doesn't matter, the key word there is "Ride".

Well it's a darn good thing I did a pre-ride.  Withrow will be full of drunks due to "Consumption Days" and the main event is at Sal's (which seems appropriate).  Went north to Chisago on Hwy 15 and found out that Hwy 8 is closed from just east of Lindstrom all the way to Hwy 95. Took me 30 minutes to get through that 5 mile stretch.  Except for the construction area it was a nice ride though.  Will have to consider it for next season.

With that said, I will not be discouraged.  I'm working on a Plan B that I'll post later.  Ever hear of the "Meister Burger"????????

Now there's a lady who knows her burgers!  That's right the world famous Meister Burger in Scandia, MN.  Don't be fooled by imitations.  There is only one original Scandia Meister Burger.

From there we'll head through Stillwater and end the ride at Century.

Never worry about leading a ride (how short or long it is, weather or not you get lost, will the people like the ride.) the people just want to RIDE, anything is better then nothing, so what if you get lost, all of us that have lead a ride have gotten lost at one time or another and that just adds another adventure to the ride, don't worry so much on weather you are doing a Good job of leading it takes time to get good at it, experience will teach you. Just follow the speed limits keep an eye on your group, don't ride like you are in a big hurry, if you see you are loosing the group slow down or pull over (if possible) to let the group catch up or have a designated place or two along your route to meet, the more times you lead a ride the more you will want to lead, the group will take care of its self.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
