Memorial Day Ride
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:19:47 PM »
With Chappy's help we have put together a route. If the weather is good May 3 I will pre-ride it I will be at the Kwik Trip on 9495 Noble Parkway Brooklyn Park just off 610 at 9AM stand up at 9:30AM. If the weather is not good I will do it the next Sunday.

Here are the details for this ride:

OK I drove the route in my car. To the Memorial will take 3 hours 130 miles. I have set up lunch with the VFW in Long Prairie which is one block from the Memorial. I have two routes going home. The first one is faster and only 107 miles back to Maple Glove, the second one is 29 miles and 30 minutes longer. Chappy will lead anyone who wants go the faster one and I will lead the longer one home both will end at the same place.

Hey Rich,

Debbie has to work on Sunday, so we'll go to church on Saturday evening.  I should be able to make it to help you pre-ride this route.  If anyone is going to miss this ride on Memorial weekend, this is your chance to get a taste of it.  You just need to enjoy route adjustments if we find roads that are not suitable for a group of bikes.  That what pre-rides are all about, to ensure the safety of the group.

I may go with you guys on this pre ride.  I won't be able to make it on the Memorial Day weekend, so like Chappy said, here is my chance to ride this route.

I would like to go but we have a family thing on Sunday.  Guess I'll have to wait for the actual ride.

Chappy & Jerry thank you riding with me. A few miss steps but great roads. I am going to ride it one more time to get times and miles. This ride will meet up at 9:00 AM with stands up at 9:30 AM. I will post more on the Memorial Day post after I ride it again. Jerry sorry we lost you we put off at the next exit I didn't feel save pulling off on the shoulder. We put the rest of our rain suits on look for you and then rode to the rest area and wait to see if you went by. Not seeing you after 10minutes or so we rode on. I hope you got home OK!

Wow. . . what finish to very nice ride.  We knew we would be riding through the storm front from the back side on the way home.  We had heavy rain from St. Cloud to just before Rogers.  I cut across from Maple Grove on Hwy 610 and had to out run a wall cloud.  Rain caught up to me as I exited on Airport Rd/Cty Rd J.  Heavy rain came just as I pulled in the garage followed by hail five minutes later.

Great ride Rich, great route, great company with Jerry coming along.  Should be a great Memorial weekend ride.

Jerry - we were a long way down the road when I saw you pulled off the shoulder of the freeway in the rain.  Rich and I were planning to stop at the next exit to put our rain jackets on.  We didn't feel safe stopping on the freeway shoulder in heavy rain.  We waited a while for you on the on-ramp afterwards because we didn't hear you go by.  Hope you made it home OK.

I see what happens when you start writing a posting and walk away for bit, someone else (Rich) gets their post up before you.  We duplicated our thoughts.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Rich and Chappy,

I called Jerry and he made it home just fine.  Sorry I had to miss all that rain.   ;)

Rich, do you mean 6495 or 9495?  The KwikTrip looks like its just north of 610 at 9495; I don't see any station on the map near 6495.

Um ... while I'm being picky (and on a far less serious note) :P ...

Chappy, will there be any dancing on your faster route.  I see Rich will have us doing a half hour of minuets.

... the second one is 129 miles and 30 minuets longer. ...

 :-X ;)

Oh, I almost forget I gotta be on better behavior if I wanna keep hangin' with the cool kids.  Sorry Rich - I'll bring donuts.
